The 8th grade boys basketball team opened its 2016 season last night in a game versus Treynor at the Glenwood Middle School.
The first half was a close-fought battle, and even though the point differential never exceeded more than 8, the Rams found themselves trailing for the better part of the first 12 minutes. Down by 5 with one minute remaining, Glenwood put together a run and managed to lead by one point at the halftime buzzer.
Following the break, the Rams maintained the narrow lead for the remainder of the contest and finish the game with a 51-46 victory.
Glenwood was led by Ryan Blum with 25 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals and a blocked shot. Silas Bales added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Other scorers were Ben Hughes with 9, Kayon Good with 3 and Henry Carson and Houston Stephens each added 2 points.
Rams will host Sidney 8th grade next Friday, November 18th at 4:00.
The 8th grade B team also had a come-from-behind victory last night. Trailing 14-3 at one point, the boys rallied back to take the lead in the 4th quarter and win 22-20. They were led by Austin Jepsen who netted 14 points on the night. Also scoring were Draden Melgoza with 4 and Chase Rounds and Trey Hansen, each with 2 points.
