What a day to be a Ram Fan! Yesterday the girls and boys cross country teams went to Clarinda and raced in the Hawkeye Ten Championships. The Rams swept the competition winning both the boys and girls divisions. The girls won their first Hawkeye Ten Championship in thirty-two years while the boys won their second straight Hawkeye Ten Title!

Mason Parks was the individual highlight of the day as he was crowned the individual champion with a time of 17:59.72. Finishing just three seconds behind him in second place was teammate Parson Covington. Both Mason and Parson have put in the time over the last couple of years and their hard work has paid off.  Gable Thompson finished in the top ten for the Rams (9th) after running a time of 18:29.41. The Rams had five runners finish in the top 15 individually. (Parks 1st, Covington 2nd, Thompson 9th, Sam McIntyre 12th, and Tyler Huey 14th.) As a team the boys finished with thirty-eight team points which was twenty-one points better than the second place team in Lewis Central. Glenwood averaged 18:26.53 as a team.

The girls finished first place after winning the tiebreaker over Denison as both schools finished with fifty-six team points. Junior Lacey Jackson lead the way for the Rams. Jackson finished seventh individually with a time of 21:31.34. Senior Katelyn Malcom was right behind Jackson with a time of 21:32.38 to finish eighth. Junior Aubrey McIntyre (11th) and Senior Kate Kaufman (13th) both finished in the top fifteen for the Rams.

Coach Janssen commented on his team’s outstanding performance:

“I could not be more proud of the girls in our program after last night's performances. In dominating fashion, the JV team repeated as H-10 Champions led by an impressive JV championship by Lauren Becker. As far as the Varsity is concerned, I'm so proud of how they finished the race, particularly in the last mile of the race. Without a doubt, we were not winning the championship at the 2 mile mark. However, the performances at the end of the race were outstanding. Lacey Jackson continued her outstanding junior season by leading us with her 7th place finish. Katelyn Malcom especially had a stellar last mile, passing many runners to finish 8th overall. Aubrey has been so consistent in terms of her finishes, finishing 11th. And while I know Kate Kaufman is disappointed in her 13th place finish, she's battling through a few slight issues but toughed it out to earn all-conference! Erin Schultz had another marvelous race and is running her best at the exact time that we need; she finished 19th last night. And I can't say enough about the two deciding factors for our H-10 Championship last night: Lexi Hankins and Abi Schultz. To have the championship be determined by the 6th runner (Lexi) and to have our 7th runner (Abi) finish 25+ spots ahead of Denison's 6th and deciding runner was so amazing.” said Coach Janssen.

“To make history and win our first H-10 Championship in 32 years feels so amazing. The credit belongs all to: the girls, who have put in the work and been committed to being successful, Coach Woodman for her knowledge and passion for training, and to the parents who have been so involved and supportive this season. With that in mind, we must now turn our attention to the SQ meet next week!” said Coach Janssen.
