Friday Glenwood traveled to Denison for a girl/boy basketball doubleheader. The boys won 72-45 against the Monarchs. Glenwood who is now 6-0 on the season are making a case that they are one of the best in the state.
The Rams once again got off to a great start by taking a ten point lead 19-9 into the second quarter. Glenwood and Denison would go bucket for bucket in the second quarter as the Rams lead the Monarchs 33-21 at halftime. The third quarter would help the Rams extend their lead as the boys scored twenty-two points to Denisons’ six. Glenwood would lose the fourth quarter 18-17 but win the game 72-45 for their sixth straight win.
Glenwood was great on the defensive side of the ball. The Rams held the Monarchs to shoot 17-50 (34%) from the floor.
Glenwood is now ranked #1 in Class 3A by Prep Hoops Iowa and will travel to Red Oak on Tuesday to take on the 1-5 Tigers.
The Lady Monarchs defeated Glenwood 54-43 after a huge fourth quarter comeback. 41-29 Glenwood took the lead over Denison heading into the fourth quarter before great pressure by the Monarchs caused turnovers by Glenwood. Denison would score twenty-five points to Glenwoods’ two in the fourth quarter to defeat the Rams.
“They started pressing in the fourth quarter and we just couldn’t handle the pressure.” said Coach Bowen. “We went cold on offense.”
Glenwood is now 2-5 on the season and will travel to Red Oak tomorrow. Th Red Oak Tigers are 4-1 on the season with their only loss coming against the Titans of Lewis Central.
