Glenwood Baseball 2-1 After Week One

Glenwood started their baseball season last week and the boys ended their first week with a 2-1 record. The boys picked up wins against Creston (8-2) and Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson (9-0). Glenwood’s only loss was at St. Albert on Thursday when the Falcons took down the Rams 7-3.

Lauritsen/Konfrst Medal at State and Make Ram Boys' Tennis History

Over the weekend the doubles team of Sam Lauritsen and Adam Konfrst placed third at the State Tennis Tournament. The tournament was held at Byrnes Park Tennis Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

Lauritsen and Konfrst were seeded fourth out of the sixteen teams from around the state. In the first round the boys would take on a team from Clear Lake (Peterson/Adams). The Rams won 7-5,6-4 in straight sets to advance them into the quarterfinals.

Singles

 

Alex Chekal went in today looking to be the first Glenwood Boys' Tennis Player to record a Singles Victory at state. He accomplished that after a first round win over Caleb Hamerlinck of Ballard in straight sets 6-1,6-1. In the quarterfinals Alex lost a hard fought battle against Jack Thomas of Davenport Assumption 7-6,6-3. Alex would then fall in the Consolation Bracket against Reed Morris of Clarke 7-5,6-4. Alex finished his Senior campaign off with a singles record of 17-3. Congratulations Alex on a great season and fantastic career! 

 

Waverly-Shell Rock Ends Girls Tennis Historic Season

Glenwood has never made it to the Girls Tennis Team State until this season. Coach Ohm and her team of Ellie Osterloh, Brooklyn Taylor, Ruby Crow, Erin Stanley, Brielle Smith and Sierra Stouder finished their season with a record of 13-2 overall and a trip to State Quarterfinals (final 8). After defeating Webster City 5-0, Carroll Kuemper 5-2 and Clarke 5-1 in the first three rounds of team regionals, the girls were defeated by Waverly-Shell Rock 0-5. Congratulations on a fantastic season!

Osterloh, Taylor and Stanley Advance to the State Tournament

Yesterday the girls competed in the Region 2 Individual District Tournament located in Red Oak, Iowa. There were two brackets that had sixteen spots in each bracket. The final two in each bracket (two singles athletes, four doubles athletes) earned a trip to the Class 1A Individual State Tournament. Glenwood qualified one team in each bracket. Junior Ellie Osterloh finished second in singles after falling in a three set match against Sarah Wood from Shenandoah.
