What a Year for the Rams!

As I close the chapter for the 2015-16 Glenwoodsports.com season, lets take a look back on what I think was a top ten sports season for the town. Glenwood had three State Champions! Matt Malcom at 152 lbs was a state champion, Molly Dean was a state champion in the 400m hurdles, and Linnaea Konfrst was a state champion in the discus. The football boys qualified for the playoffs and brought lots of excitement back to Friday night lights.

Ram Baseball Finish Fourth in H10

The Glenwood Ram Baseball team finished their 2016 season with a fourth place finish in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. The Rams finished the season at 20-16 with a conference record of 11-9. The Rams finished behind Lewis Central (1st), Harlan (2nd), and Kuemper Catholic (3rd). 

 

Baseball All Conference Teams will be released in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned!

12U Glenwood Gold Finishes Third at WIBBL Tourney

The 12U Glenwood Gold Baseball Team finished third at the state WIBBL Tournament. The Rams lost in the semi-finals against Logan Gold 4-12 before coming back and winning the third place game over MO Valley 9-1. The Rams were the third seed in the tournament and defeated AHST in their first game 11-1. In the quarterfinals the boys defeated the Council Bluffs Titans 13-8.

Great season boys! Keep up the hard work!

Ram Softball Great Season Comes to an End

Tonight the Ram Softball team fell to the Creston Panthers 3-2 in the sub-state final. Glenwood jumped off to an early lead in the first inning behind three doubles from Ingoldsby, Starner, and Van Ness. The Rams would score two runs from those hits and had the lead over the Panthers until the fifth inning. Creston's bats came alive in the fifth inning and scored three runs to take the lead over the Rams. Glenwood played tough and fought hard the entire game! Great season girls!

Ram Softball Advances to the Next Round

Smiles were all around last night as the softball team defeated the Harlan Cyclones 7-5 in round one of district play. Senior Lyndie Van Ness pitched all six innings for the Rams to help the Rams make it to the next round. Harlan scored the first run of the game in the first inning to jump on top of the Rams. Behind great two out rally's the Rams battled the entire night to give them their seven runs. The Rams (21-12) will now face Lewis Central at Lewis Central on Saturday at 7 pm. Glenwood and Lewis Central split their regular city meetings.

I took a deep look into the Hawkeye 10 Baseball and Softball statistics to show how our Ram's stack up in the Hawkeye 10.

Baseball and Softball Peaking at the Right Time

Ram baseball and softball are peaking are the right time.

The baseball team is now 11-6 in the conference (3rd) and 14-9 overall. The boys have won seven straight games and look to continue their streak tonight vs. Thomas Jefferson. Junior Cole Loeffelbein is batting .500 currently and is on a hot streak. He recently batted for the cycle (single, double, triple, and home run). Mavrick Decker and Kolton Wilwerding are not far behind as they are batting .466 and .419. Glenwood now has 219 hits with 596 at bats on the season. That gives them a team average of .367.

 

Rams Take Down the Trojans

Tonight the baseball and softball teams took on the Trojans from Atlantic. The softball team played a double header and the baseball team played just won game. The Rams would win all three games against the Trojans.
The baseball team scored double digits and defeated Atlantic 10-2. The softball team won 7-0 and 7-3 against Atlantic. In game one both VanNess and Richter were great at the plate going 2-3! In the second game, Brielle Smith hit a home run that played a big role in Glenwood's comeback.
